About Gus

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
  • General Color: Black with Tan, Yellow or Fawn

Gus had LOTS of celebrating to do on Labor Day Weekend 2018 ... he found his new forever family!

Hi … my name is Gus and here are some things you need to know about me:

Oh sweet Gus … the smartest little guy around, due in part to his Schipperke genes. This little fella is very independent, curious, determined, busy and snuggly and sweet! He is always looking for something to do or something to entertain him.  We think he would be a star in an obedience class and perhaps in an agility class.  First time he saw an agility course he did every obstacle with ease!

Gus will do best with an owner with Schipperke experience and one who has ‘expectations’ of him.  Cute as he is, he is definitely not your typical lap dog … he is a working dog who really needs to have a job to do.  He likes human interaction and wants to be your helper … and if you don’t challenge him with tasks, he will find something to do on his own … which may not turn out so well.  Are you up for the challenge?  and the rewards?

Please read the rest of Gus's bio below so you can learn more about him!

If you think Gus might be the perfect pup for you, please go to www.allamericanmuttrescue.org/forms and complete your adoption application online.

Approximate age/birthdate:  ~late 2015

Weight/size: 15 lbs

Housebroken:  YES (as long as you do your part and take him out regularly)

Crate trained:  YES

Personality:  happy, loving, curious, independent, busy

Energy level:  medium with frequent bursts of high

Fenced yard required?:   YES … NO EXCEPTIONS.  He would definitely be a flight risk if something catches his interest.  A physical fence is necessary ... no underground or electronic fences.

Does he/she jump fences?  NO but he can dig and wiggle under places you never thought about.

Leash walk:  YES … needs more practice because he is still a puller when he gets distracted

Obedience training:  No but he is very smart and needs the training

Riding in vehicles:  RIDES OK … gets a little stressed at first

Spayed/neutered:   YES

Up-to-date on routine vaccinations:   YES

Microchipped:   YES

Social with other dogs:  YES … must be introduced properly because he really wants to be in charge.  He also seems to prefer playing with bigger dogs.  He pretty much ignores the smaller ones.

Social with cats:  Curious about cats and will try to touch them. He has growled at a cat in his foster home and he got in BIG trouble.

Good with children:  Will probably be ok with older (10 and over) children who are calm and respectful.

Adoption donation: $175

We are an all-volunteer group, so please be patient and understand that it takes an average of 7-14 days to process the applications including reference checks, follow-up questions and home visits.  You can expedite the process by providing accurate email addresses for all your references.  Time to make phone calls is limited and we often have multiple applications in process.  We make every effort to move through them as quickly as possible.

When your application is approved, we will schedule a meet-and-greet to see if Gus picks you too.

If it seems that the adoption will be a good match for all, there is an adoption fee, and an adoption contract to be signed.

Please feel free to email weluvpups@hotmail.com if you have additional questions.
