We are in search of a true 'Chihuahua Whisperer' for this little girl.  Look at this face!  Baby is your typical Chihuahua girl in so many ways.  When she doesn’t know you, she can sound like Cujo, and she has been known to actually nip. When she loves you, she loves you completely.  This little girl’s job in the past has been ‘Family Pet and Puppy Producer.’  Now she just wants to settle in and be loved as a family pet … her Mommy days are done!

Baby is not a super confident girl and she has never been an ‘only pet’.  She was adopted once and there was not another dog in the home and she did not do well.  It seemed that having so much attention was almost stressful for her. She has always lived with several other dogs and that may indeed be her comfort zone.  But, she does need a strong, patient, loving person who will not allow her to be the 'boss' of the house.  She could get in trouble if she thinks she is in charge. She also needs someone who will not crowd her or try to force her to adjust too quickly.  She needs time to decide if she can trust new people or not.  Do you think you are ready for this spunky little spitfire to brighten your world?

Weight/size:  11 pounds (and she needs to not gain any more no matter how much she begs)

Housebroken:  As long as you do your part and take her out often, she is happy to go potty outside

Crate trained:  YES

Personality:  a bit wary of strangers, vocal (great alarm system), very loving once she trusts you

Energy level:  medium

Fenced yard required?: Absolutely preferred because she enjoys having a safe place to be outside and explore.  She can NEVER be off-leash in an unfenced area as she still depends on you to keep her safe.  Right now you can’t depend on her to come when called if she is distracted or scared.

Does he/she jump fences?  NO

Leash walk with manners:  Working on it.  She does better when wearing a harness rather than just a collar.  The harness is also a safer choice and protects her trachea from excessive pressure.

Obedience training:  NO

Riding in vehicles:  RIDES OK     

Spayed/neutered:   YES

Up-to-date on routine vaccinations:   YES

Microchipped:   YES

Social with other dogs:  She has always been around other dogs her size, but she is defensive with larger dogs, and her attitude with them could get her in trouble. 

Social with cats:  She will chase cats, so 'no cats' is preferred.

Good with children:  No children - she will bite.

Adoption donation: $175

We are an all-volunteer group, so please be patient and understand that it takes an average of 7-14 days to process the applications including reference checks, follow-up questions and home visits.  You can expedite the process by providing accurate email addresses for all your references.  Time to make phone calls is limited and we often have multiple applications in process.  We make every effort to move through them as quickly as possible.

When your application is approved, we will schedule a home visit/meet-and-greet to see if Baby picks you too.

If it seems that the adoption will be a good match for all, there is an adoption fee, and an adoption contract to be signed.
