We sent out the MAY DAY looking for the perfect new family for JD and on May Day (5/1/2023) JD (now named Wasabi) met his new Mom and it has been a love match from the beginning!  Congratulations and happy life little boy!

Check out this phenomenal pup!  We were told that Jimmy Dean is an Australian Shepherd/Setter mix … but all we know for sure is that he is one handsome, smart and sweet boy.  Those eyes … one blue, one brown.  This youngster is very energetic (as are most puppies) and he gets super happy excited, and he really tries to be a good, good boy.  He loves to play and loves attention and he is so ready to find an active family who will love him and include him in family activities!  He is a pup who needs training and needs a person to consistently work with him with positive reinforcement.  He loves praise and rewards and will be a model pup if consistent expectations are set for him.  Could he be the guy for you?

Approximate age/birthdate: August 2021

Weight/size:  ~ 33 lbs at 9 months, will probably get to 40 lbs

Housebroken:  Working on it.  He will do well as long as you get him outside frequently and regularly.

Crate trained:  YES

Personality:  sweet, energetic, excitable, happy ... he is a sweet boy and seems to be pretty smart and quick to learn new things

Energy level:  medium/high … he can settle down when he needs to

Fenced yard required?:   YES … he is a mix of working breeds, and genetics will make him prone to wander looking for a job ... or somebody to play with!  He loves to explore in the yard and a fence is his best protection!

Does he/she jump fences?  NO (at least not yet)

Leash walk with manners:  Getting better.  He is young and gets excited when he sees something he either wants to explore or chase.  A well-fitted harness and a fixed-length (never a retractable) leash will be MUSTS for him.

Obedience training:  Jimmy Dean is ready for a basic obedience class and would probably be a class super star!

Riding in vehicles:  RIDES OK     

Spayed/neutered:   YES

Up-to-date on routine vaccinations:   YES

Microchipped:   YES

Social with other dogs:  YES

Social with cats:  Has not been around cats in foster care, but he would probably be happy to chase cats.  Would recommend NO CATS.

Good with children:  Will probably be best with respectful, calm children ages 10 and up.  His energy might be a bit much for younger children!

Adoption donation: $250

We are an all-volunteer group, so please be patient and understand that it takes an average of 7-14 days to process the applications including reference checks, follow-up questions and home visits.  You can expedite the process by providing accurate email addresses for all your references.  Time to make phone calls is limited and we often have multiple applications in process.  We make every effort to move through them as quickly as possible.

When your application is approved, we will schedule a home visit/meet-and-greet to see if Jimmy Dean picks you too.

If it seems that the adoption will be a good match for all, there is an adoption fee, and an adoption contract to be signed.
